Painting Styles. Which one is for you?

If you are a lover of painted art, chances are there may be a style that really resonates with you. Art is by its nature, open to interpretation from the individual, which is why certain painting styles appeal to some and not to others.
Although there are a myriad of painting styles, to get an understanding of the more famous painting styles artists have used, Caloundra Framing on the Sunshine Coast outline them here for our readers.

Modernism

Western society, around 1850, underwent a shift towards artworks that accentuated innovation and experimentation of forms, materials and techniques. It was during this time conservative values of realism where being challenged. Self-consciousness was at the forefront of artist’s works as the traditional styles of art and literature were becoming outdated.

Impressionism

Impressionist is a style originating in France in the 1860’s, where paintings demonstrated that human beings do not see objects, but instead see light and colour.
Famous impressionist paintings include Water Lilies by Claude Monet

Abstract

Abstract art has its origins from the 19th century and sought to break away from the traditional representation of physical objects where the world would see art as recognisable images. Abstract art focuses on and explores the relationships of forms and colours.

Picasso famously painted in abstract style with works such as The Weeping Woman.

Photorealism

Photorealism is the genre of painting based on a camera taking photographs and then creating a painting that appears to be very realistic to the photograph. This movement began around the late 1960s and early 1970s.

Surrealism

Originating in the 20th-century, art saw an avant-garde movement which sought to release the creative potential of the unconscious mind, for example by the irrational juxtaposition of images.
